Stéphanie Maillet est une illustratrice française qui vit et travaille à Montpellier.
Depuis son adolescence, elle gribouille, photographie, modèle de petits personnages parfois monstrueux, étranges ou décalés. Elle affectionne l’humour noir, les moments partagés entre amies, les créations faites main et l’art de donner vie à ses idées.
« Depuis que je suis petite, comme tous les enfants, je dessine. Plus tard, j’ai voulu devenir plongeuse professionnelle, puis vétérinaire. En 4ᵉ, j’ai découvert les arts plastiques et j’ai su que je voulais en faire mon métier. Je me suis orientée vers un bac STI Arts Appliqués, où je me suis épanouie, surtout durant mes deux premières années aux Beaux-Arts. En troisième année, tout en suivant une formation en illustration, j’ai commencé à trouver ma propre voie artistique. »
Diplômée de l’École des Beaux-Arts de Toulon en 2004, elle crée alors des cartes illustrées qu’elle vend sur son propre site internet.
En 2012, elle entreprend un tour du monde. Durant ce voyage, elle retrouve le plaisir simple et sincère du dessin traditionnel. De cette aventure naissent un carnet de voyage et un projet artistique intitulé Le tour du monde des petites puces.
À son retour, elle s’installe à Aix-en-Provence et se consacre à l’illustration jeunesse. Son premier livre en autoédition, La journée du petit monstre, marque le début d’un univers coloré et poétique où se mêlent imagination, douceur et malice.
Stéphanie Maillet is a French illustrator based in Montpellier.
Since her teenage years, she has been sketching, taking photographs, and sculpting small, quirky, and sometimes slightly monstrous characters. She finds joy in dark humor, sharing drinks with friends, crafting with her hands, and bringing her creations to life through movement and storytelling.
“Ever since I was a child — like many others — I’ve been drawing. At first, I dreamed of becoming a professional diver, then a veterinarian. But in middle school, I discovered the world of visual arts and decided to follow that path. I chose to study Applied Arts, and during my first two years at art school, I truly blossomed. In my third year, while also studying illustration, I began to find my own creative direction.”
After graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulon in 2004, Stéphanie began creating illustrated greeting cards for her own online shop.
In 2012, she embarked on a journey around the world. During her travels, she rediscovered the pure pleasure of drawing by hand, which led to a travel sketchbook and the artistic project “Le tour du monde des petites puces” (The Little Fleas’ World Tour).
Upon returning to France, she settled in Aix-en-Provence and turned fully toward children’s illustration. Her first self-published book, “La journée du petit monstre” (The Little Monster’s Day), marks the beginning of a colorful and playful universe where imagination meets emotion.
